HOT TRENDS

In recent years Greg has noticed the popularity of surfing increase as never before. More and more people are looking to all types of board sports as a way to relax, unwind and have fun. The industry is also looking for innovative ways to create products that are not only high spec but environmentally friendly too.

We love these new eco friendly innovations...

VISSLA WETSUITS These are made by using earth mined limestone to replace the petrochemicals in the neoprene fabric.

PATAGONIA ORGANIC COTTON TEES These lightweight organic cotton T-shirts are made using no GMO seeds or toxic pesticides and are Fair Trade Certified™ sewn.

Surfboards are available off the rack, or the team can organise a custom board made for your skill level and ride preference.[/caption]

SO, YOU'RE A BEGINNER?

If you're thinking of taking up surfing or paddle boarding this summer Greg recommends these basics...

#1 LESSONS Book into a surf school to learn how to surf starting with the basics. An important part of the sport is understanding surf safety, how to navigate rips and the basics of which waves to catch.

Greg recommends PADDLE BOARDING www.standuppaddlesa.com at Seacliff or SURF LESSONS www.surfandsun.com.au at Middleton.

#2 A SURFBOARD Picking a board with more volume is great for a beginner. A thicker, longer and more buoyant board is easier to ride for first timers. A soft board is also a safer option, especially for kids.

#3 A WET SUIT A 3/2 Steamer ('surf speak' for a long sleeve / long leg wet suit) is recommended for South Aussie conditions, keeping you warm in the water all year round.

#4 A LEG ROPE This piece of handy equipment is a must have to prevent your surfboard or paddle board floating away from you in the surf.

#5 A GOOD SPOT Glenelg is perfect for paddle boarding on a flat calm day. For those after an adrenaline rush, you can catch a wave or two at the Mid-coast or Middleton.

#6 DETERMINATION! Surfing and paddle boarding are sports best practiced over and over again. The rush you get from standing for the first time makes it all worthwhile.
