Crisp, salty breezes, and tumultuous seas are beckoning you to the Bay this winter. South Australia’s moodiest season can evoke an intense urge to hibernate, but Glenelg’s vast array of cosy dining destinations and intimate experiences are certainly worth heading out for.

Here are five things to do this winter on Jetty Road, Glenelg that will coax you off the couch:

1. Bite into Bottega

Wickedly-good scoops of handcrafted gelato await beyond the line at Bottega Gelateria. Using traditional methods, plus lashings of passion and love, the cult-followed indulgence is one of our favourite spots to stop off on Jetty Road, Glenelg - before and or after dinner.

Providing an artisanal product, Bottega prides itself on only using the freshest seasonal fruits from South Australia and beyond. Their flavours are free from industrial ingredients, artificial flavours, colourings, and synthetic emulsifiers. You can also order their crunchy waffle cones and cakes online for your next occasion. Try the Gluten-Free Chocolate and Pecan Cake this weekend!

2. Relish in shellfish

Two words: Lobster bisque. Cardone’s velvety hero dish is the seafood restaurant’s siren song, served with a succulent piece of lobster tail, shellfish oil, and chives. Be sure to order extra bread to soak up every last drop - then again, licking the bowl could almost be forgiven under these circumstances.

Tucked into Moseley Street, you will find SheShells Restaurant championing local produce with international influences. South Australian Black Mussels are their signature, featuring the morsels in their Italian Black Mussel Pot, Malaysian Mussel Laksa, Seafood Supreme, and Spaghetti Marinara.

3. Ice skating at Winter Wonderland

Nothing sets the scene for a winter date quite like ice skating and we have the perfect event for you to add to your diary for July. Glenelg’s Winter Wonderland glides off from Friday, July 1 for just over three weeks inside a windowed marquee. The skating sensation will even play host to Retro Skate on Friday and Saturday nights at 7pm and 8.30pm.

The occasion is the ultimate opportunity to sport your latest winter fashion loves from Glenelg’s boutiques, so get shopping over the next three weeks for gloves, scarves, and toasty jackets. And of course, the date would not be complete without a decadent Bracegirdle’s hot chocolate or Waffle King sojourn.

4. The Moseley’s igloo experience

Bask in the Bay’s wintery glory from the comfort of your private igloo. Curate your group of eight for the ultra ‘gram-able’ set-up, offering dining or lounge seating, a fireplace, and a premium spot for winter people-watching.

Daily sessions run for 2.5 hours from 11am until the last booking commencement at 8pm and require a weekday minimum spend of $150, or a Friday to Sunday spend of $300, redeemable on a la carte dining or the 2022 season’s Feed Me Menu. Your booking is complete with your own waiter, who will ensure your experience is as magical as promised.

5. Cocktail hour

As the sun sets, swathes of foodies flock to fourth. The Jetty Road, Glenelg eatery is famous for dishes like market fish, tartare and crispy squid with grilled pineapple, but it’s their cocktail list that has us craving a visit.

The all-day dining destination transitions effortlessly into a sleek evening offering, making it an idyllic spot to gather your aperitivo accomplices. fourth.’s classics feature the Hanky Panky, Pineapple Express, and Lychee Gimlet; an ultra-lickable offering from the mixology team that you simply cannot recreate at home.
