Sunset cocktails, happy hour tacos, or a game of pool are all on our wish list this summer at Jetty Road, Glenelg. Find out where to sip with the locals at these cool bars and hotspots.

The Grand Bar

In a prime spot overlooking the picturesque Glenelg Beach and Moseley Square, The Grand Bar is an iconic Glenelg venue. It’s the perfect place to wine, dine and unwind while admiring the foreshore on the alfresco deck. Offering all the delicious pub classics like juicy burgers, crunchy fish & chips, and succulent steaks, there are also fresh options like salads and fresh local seafood.

The Grand Bar is part of the Stamford Hotels & Resorts and is open 7 days from 11am to late, at night it transforms into a nightclub and an awesome place to have a few drinks with a DJ from 9pm on Saturday. Themed Club Nights are popular along with the extensive cocktail menu and smoker BBQ on the weekend. If you love smoked BBQ wings and ribs, head down on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm and 3pm – It’s first in, first served, so be quick!

Chalkers Eight Ball Centre

For some good retro fun, Chalkers is a fun option for a cool drink and a game of pool with your mates. Mick, a world champion, and his team have a passion for eight ball and snooker and have thirty tables that are available to hire to work on your skills. Located upstairs in the historic Strand Picture Theatre, it was transformed into a state-of-the-art pool hall in 1994.

Happy Hour on Friday afternoons is a crowd favourite. From 4-7pm Fridays pool enthusiasts enjoy, $10 tables, $5 beers, or $6 imported beers and selected spirits. If you want to improve your game or if you’re a beginner we asked what a professional would recommend, “Keep your head and body still whilst aiming at the ball, position your body and chin over the cue. If you are right-handed, use your right leg and point it toward the spot on the coloured ball you want to hit.”

Beach Burrito Company

The Beach Burrito Company in Glenelg will celebrate eight years on Jetty Road this New Year’s Eve and Gemma, venue manager, has loved every minute of it, “I’ve been working here for almost five years and have so many great memories of all the events I’ve been able to be a part of. We’re all about surf, skate, snow, and art, so, we regularly host art shows, surf film viewings, and compete in surf competitions to help raise funds for Surf Aid. We also love to display plenty of photography and art from local artists in our venue.”

Margaritas and tacos by the beach are the perfect combos and there is always something to do when the sun goes down at Glenelg, “Whether it be a catch-up with mates for a coffee or a cocktail or browsing through the Sunset Markets, there is plenty of opportunities to get amongst the community,” Gemma says.
